Drains and filter socks

Should both the full siphon and the open channel drain pipes terminate into seperate filter socks?

Removing the socks will be difficult because the drains pipes terminate one inch below the sump water level. I want sock changing to be easy as possible.

Any ideas / alternatives / etc regarding filter socks and drain placement greatly appreciated.

Since your open channel is only handling minimal extra flow( should essentially be “spiraling/ hugging the sides of the standpipe as I’m sure you’re aware) it doesn’t matter if they drain into the same sock. There’s negligible flow from the open channel to be filtered. But from the photos, it doesn’t even look like there’s room for two drains in one sock, unless you 45’d the OC over to the same sock(which may be your plan?) More importantly, have you run the system with socks and does the waterline stay at one inch or less from the standpipes?
 
Only my main drain empties into a filter sock, my secondary and emergency drain just empty straight into the sump.

Just a note with the end of the pipe terminating below the surface it will increase the pressure in the system and will stall the starting process. I personally found with my system the main drain needs to terminate above the sump’s water surface because the increased pressure of the drain being submerged would cause the secondary drain to become the main siphon sometimes. So testing/tuning your system by pretending to have it come back on after a power outage on it’s own is a must! Mine has worked flawlessly since.
 
Having the drain go below the sump waterline greatly diminishes splashing and noise. You could run the main drain into the sock and the secondary and emergency drains directly into a refugium as well if you have one. You could "loose fit" the last section of drain pipe so it is easily removed when you wan to pull the filter socks out.
 
Was something cut out of that top frame? Looks like a rough cut where I'd expect to see another drain pipe fitting. But I agree with Matt - have the last little bit of pipe be removable so it's easier to get the socks out. I had to do the same with mine just to make assembly/disassembly of the whole drain run possible.

In almost all the sumps I've seen, the union sits right above the bulkhead on the sump.

you are correct, the second drain hole was cut out (I bought it used).

I have not run this system. But according to the trigger systems specifications, the water level is fixed at 9.5". The plan is to have the pipe terminate an inch below the water. I really have no idea if the water level varies slightly or not.

That is normal. Usually upon startup a bean animal or herbie will have the backup kick in until the main drain goes full siphon then everything goes to normal. I have never had it prevent my main drain from going full siphon with the end below water level. In fact having the end above water level makes for unnecessary noise. Most would have the E drain above water level so it alerts them of an issue with the extra noise.
 
Sockless here on my BA overflow. If I had to I would say only your primary should flow into the sock with the secondary only a trickle that was noted above. Technically all three should be in the same chamber anyway but with my sump only two are. Secondary sees a small trickle from time to time. Emergency never - maybe on startup if that. So not really sure I can provide any value.

That’s actually very helpful, thanks for your input. My setup won’t allow all three into chamber one so I’ll have emergency into chamber 2 (fuge). Just one sock on the full siphon is the plan now and that sure will makes thing easier.

In almost all the sumps I've seen, the union sits right above the bulkhead on the sump.
The sump has a bulkhead that the drain feeds into, their will be a "tail" on the bottom of that bulkhead that feeds into the filter sock. If that "tail" is removable it makes it easy to get the sock in and out.

Wow I’ve never felt like more of an idiot. I made that “bulkhead” myself and I didn’t even think about that. Oh my heavens. Thanks man! This solves all my problems!

Plumbing looks good. Is it just me or does it look like the street 45s into the union on the e drain are barely in the fitting ?
