Well! I have taken the plunge. I have purchased my first reef tank. A Deep Blue 57 Gal Rimless. I will be posting as I build my stand/reef and occasionally I will add some sound clips of me getting screamed at by the wife! Let me know what you see me doing wrong and I will try to come up with the best excuse why i'm doing it :(.

I can't imagine it being ideal but I am not smart enough in this realm to know what specific problems this may pose. Good luck! :)

Is it going to be utilized as a main source of heat? If so, I probably would place your tank somewhere else. I utilized a wood stove for heat years ago and it was always warmest near the stove. If a fireplace is similar, I wouldn't recommend it.

No only used for atmosphere. Mostly burn duraflame logs and only in dead of winter.

Good idea to test your skills of explaining purchases on the chop-saw... Once that tank is up and running you will have to explain coral purchases, fish, and other 'necessities'.

I think you would be fine. Are you going to have a skimmer? If so have an air to were the air for the skimmer is coming from outside

Started the stand build today. Chop saw worked great and got the chance to use that router that has been sitting on the shelf. I will seal and caulk the bottom to use as a basin for sump if anything leaks. Tonight and tomorrow I will add legs, top frame 3/4 inch oak top 1/4 oak facings. I will need to come up with a cool top edge for the router. Then hopefully doors as well. This week I will start the sump build and running electric and switch board to make my life easy! Need to figure this out so I can get to work on my Mantis Shrimp farm!!!

Give me your feedback!

Looks good, just an FYI, use two screws to attach framing to each other. Stronger and more stable than one screw.

I don't think you'd need the foam with that tank since its braced at the bottom, I would look into manafacturers warranty and such before deciding.
