Drawbacks to Cube?

You could build a custom stand like I did and have plenty of room

That is a beautiful stand. I would love to do something more custom, but I don't have the tools or space to do much DIY right now. :( but definitely something to consider.. I might also look at getting a oversized stand somewhere so I have more space, and then it'll make it easier to upgrade if I want to in the future :P

If it's not on the ground floor I would think weight distribution is more of a concern with cubes than a traditional tank that spans several floor joists.

I am on ground floor of my apartment complex (Am hoping to move into a house in the next 2 years), and already confirmed with the owners that there are no regulations on fish tanks on the ground floor, and that I can renew my lease without having to move when it's up in 6 months :) but I wouldn't have thought about that.. I would've thought about weight overall but not the fact that a long tank is probably supported by more than one load bearing point.

I built a sort of cube 5'x5'x3' . I like it. Like said and you already figured it out. Swim and visual hiding is harder for fish compared to a long tank.

i have a 50 cube so it's basically the same as the 60 just 4" shorter

like others have said, they're cool, but they're kind of a pain to work in. sump especially. i put in too much rock so now that my corals are filling in, i have issues getting my hands in there and not messing stuff up. i broke off my setosa frag recently and lost it (went under the rockwork somewhere)

the sump is easy to access for things in the front, skimmer and filter sock area. but getting to the back to check on things is a huge pain, especially as i have a large refugium light hanging in there and a clip on fan. i'd probably clean my return pump more often if it wasn't such a pain to get at it

The stand I'm getting with the tank is completely open at the back so I'm almost considering leaving it a couple feet away from the wall to be able to get in from both sides :) I don't have any pets or children, and rarely have company so I'm not terribly concerned about anything getting messed up without having it closed off

At that price, you could even furnish it as a coral/invert quarantine (yet waaayyyyy cooler!) and actually Enjoy your qt process!
I REALLY like the way the Trigger 26 sump works in cube. When positioned "long-ways" in the back; everything is accessible, & it's a real joy to be able to wet-vac out the return area, play in the refugium & h access filter socks area! Triggers imo are great users of space & try to give a nice size fuge, even in their smallest units.
My experience has been, less aggression than rectangular tanks of similar tank volume--if, I kept my rockwork taller, but very open around the edges; lotsof rockwork to explore, swim-throughs, etc. Felt I could, manipulate to some extent, fishes' behavior, by just adjusting the rockscape. Tried planning MORE optimal residences (hidey holes, caves, fun coral overhangs) than fish ( by a multiplier of 5). Tall rockwork encouraged "swimming around" the tank in a circuit, with only the occasional pause to bully
I also thought that multiples of peaceful species did extremely well in the cube. But I definitely felt, only "1" diva max fish (with a few diva minors, to balance the power) & obeying the"stocking order according to aggression rules" became imperatives instead of pleasant advise!!! (All my 93 gang are being qt'd rn for flukes, and they're sooo happy in a 29 But that's how carefully had to curate the stocking: they're ALL peacefully in a 29, & really miss a buddy if one leaves for a dip.)
But -- (I'm reading your mind here?!) -- there hopefully will be a 200g + tank in your future ; so, perhaps go lightly on cube spending, and/or purchase gear you can use on your 200g!! (From my personal experience, can never have 2 many qt display tanks!!! They really eliminate all Boredom from being a Great ReefMaster & protecting those fish )

Well.. tank is broke that I was going to buy.. guy said he set it up on his porch outside since he didn't have space in the house (so I could check it out on Saturday) and he was mowing the lawn and hit a rock that flew into the tank ?

But I appreciate all the responses.. think I might go for a cube instead of the 75 I was originally looking at at the LFS. been looking for used, but it's been hard to find any that are close. I don't have a truck and need to rent one and don't want to travel too far with a tank, especially since I won't have alot of help.

bummer that really sucks big time.
look at SCA cubes the have 40 up to 90 gal cubes if you want a cube.
you can get just the tank or PNP system.

also worth taking a look at waterbox and red sea

best of luck!

We've had our 60 cube for 13 months now and so far the main negative to me is how deep it is. I'm 5'5" and to reach the bottom my arm pit gets in the water, so I always have to shower (so deodorant doesn't get in tank). I don't think it would be an issue for someone with longer arms though :p overall we love the tank. We would have added a side door on the right side to make getting the skimmer in and out and changing the filter sock easier. I think that's a good deal, we paid $500 for ours, it came with the unfinished stand, skimmer, an mp10, gen 2 radions, the sump and a few other things. I've not seen a deal that good since in our area since.

I thought I was alone with having to shower before getting into the tank. My arms are not very long as well and am worried with what Old Spice would do to the tank.
