So I have my first cyno bacteria outbreak.

It hitchhiked in on a coral plug I bought and when I laid it down on the sand you can see right where I put the plug down and now I have a perpetual brown slimy mat there.

Snails won't touch it. I vacuum it up once a week when I clean, but like clockwork it grows right back in that very spot. Guess I am lucky it hasn't spread beyond that isolao space, but every time I vacuum I tear it apart and pieces of it go floating all over the place.

Is there a efficient way to deal with this while it is isolated? An CUC that will target Cyno in the sand? You can see my Conch there in the background and he avoids it. Enjoys Diatoms though.

Appreciate any advice.

First pic is to show the difference between the Cyno and the Diatoms. Cyno is that brownish red mat, while the diatoms are the greenish brown dust

Cyano hitchhiking in on a coral frag isn't going to be a problem if your nutrient parameters are stable. If you are seeing cyano occuring, then it is due to fluctuations in your tank's nutrients. This is very common during early stages of a tank, which is assumed since you are also having diatoms occuring. Cyano also occurs in areas of poor circulation, which is probably the problem you are having in that particular spot of the tank. Maybe adjust your powerheads a little and see if it helps clear it up a bit. At this stage of your tank, I would not use ChemiClean or any other chemical agent to rid the tank of that small amount of cyano. Good luck!

you can try to rearrange your flow to give more flow to the area.
Personally, I do find that dosing a few drops of bacter7 ever few days helps, so does dosing phyto.
Try to add another piece of live rock or coral or something from a mature tank. Cyano is a bacteria, so the idea is to add healthier bacteria to out-compete.
And of course controlling your nutrients.

its a combination of different tactics to beat it, but eventually you will.
