What does everyone look for in their LFS? What would you like to see? What would be a dream store be? Just a fun topic for the winter night :-) Stay safe everyone!

Well a dream store would be everything free.

The thing I look for is the staff at least know something about fish. I'd prefer them to own a tank and have some back ground.

Price is something that matters as well.. I don't mind paying a little more than online, but double is out of the question.

#1 thing is NO DEAD FISH.. If i see them I will not buy from them.. Yes I know fish die, but I've seen some half eaten.. This is a matjor walk out and never return for me.

I want a wide selection of equipment from the low to high end spectrum, plumbing supplies, great frag tanks, rare and unique finds as well as a staff/owner who is willing to go out of his/her way when something goes wrong. Or if there is that "thing" I'm looking for, willing to try getting it in.

World Wide Corals is pretty close to being perfect LFS for marine tanks. As a regular customer, the guys take good care of me with attention and knowledge. Pricing is good most of the time and well stocked. Other supplies on hand.

In short, the LFS should have what you need when you need it at an acceptable price, with a good selection of livestock. Knowledge is also an important piece. I do agree robbrouse about dead fish. Having worked part time at a pet mega store many years ago, I made sure the dead fish were removed immediately. Looks bad to the customers.

Good customer service..and honesty! Pricing to me isn't as important depending on why their prices are more...I have a close LFS that does a 2 week hold/check on all fish and makes sure they are eating before they put them out for sale....

You are all describing reef systems coral farm here in Columbus Ohio. As soon as you walk in there are two 235 gallon strictly sps tanks, one 150 gallon cube absolutely full of coral, a 900 gallon tank with clams up to 20 inches long. They carry ecotech, Rapid led, and Apollo, have a nice selection of fish (only reef safe) about 6 80 gallons full of nice sized frags, a 125 full of mini colonies, then there's a green house portion lit by the sun only, full of huge clams, anemones, and mother colonies. All cheap because most of it is just grown there. This is run on a county road in the middle of no where. Owner knows almost everything there is to know, and the employes are the same. Never received bad advice, or an unhealthy animal from them

Looks like I have to take a trip! Is the greenhouse heated?

Well the best case would be that I owned the store. But realistically I look for clean setups and healthy livestock and nice, knowledgeable, and truthful staff. Most people want to see cheap prices, but I don't mind if the prices are higher than other stores if I'm getting healthy good looking specimens, although it is great to get a deal!

Dream fish store. No dead fish in tanks. Advice that is helpful to a customer. Hell everything doesn't have to be high end. They should have lowest to high prices on their fish and corals

1. Nice Stock and New Stock
2. Good Pricing
3. Helpful and Friendly Staff
4. Cleanliness

I like to see a "wow" factor! Healthy displays of fish and coral, friendly and knowledgable staff who actually know what their talking about. A good selection of dry and used goods. Willing to get you what you are looking for and always having new stock as it is bought.

Variety. I understand that no one can carry everything, but one brand of skimmer, one brand of pumps, and two low level power heads gets a little monotonous. Price is relative. I'll pay more for something knowing that I'm supporting a local business or I need it now, but some things at double or more than online get passed over. And I want to see livestock. Not mostly empty tanks, dead fish, frag racks of 3 common zoas . Also have a small issue with live rock tanks COVERED with aptasia.
