Dreaming about your next upgrade be like...

Sleeping Octopus changing colors based on the world inside his dreams.

What's your dream build? How big would it be? What would you stock it with? Any "must have" equipment?

My dream build is that I build a time machine and the week I started SW Reefing in 2004 I would go back in time and punch myself in the face so hard I blackout and come to my senses not to start this hobby

My current 100g build is a dream tank too me. Too big = too much work and $$$

My dream TANK is my Waterbox 230.6. However to make it my dream BUILD, I would need to have the space to build a fish room with water mixing and water change stations. I dream of the day I can just turn a couple valves and do a water change. Unfortunately that is likely to remain just a dream for the foreseeable future. :(

375

Emperor angel, zebra moray, aussie harlequin tusk, s/s puffer, & a sargassum trigger.

Basement sump with ro skimmer and huge refugium.

Big peninsula display tank, with a display refugium built into the stand underneath.

Well, my current tank is a 450, so anything subsequent would have to be much larger otherwise what’s the point. I’d actually started a conceptual thread on my next tank, but it’ll be a very slow gestation because its not happening until after I retire - and that is still some years off.

It’ll be a DIY plywood tank in the 1,200 gallon range. Something capable of acceptably housing multiple unicorn tangs.

I sketch out fish lists for my dream tank often. it’s partly connected to a big move (out of the US, to France) my husband and I have planned in the coming year or two. So the tank won’t be happening for a 3 years at least. The wish list goes something like -
Copperband butterfly
Some combo of venustas, potters, multibar angels (I’d love a pair -hoping captive breeding brings down the price
Sunburst anthias
2-5 leopard wrasses depending on tank size (blue star and black are my top two)
Some kind of more peaceful tang like the kole
Many smaller fish like shrimp gobies, rainford goby, blennies, Pygmy geometric perchlet, possum wrasses, Banggai cardinal pair (mostly with the hope that they’d breed).

I think that fish list would be ok in 100 gallon or so tank as a minimum. If I got my hands on a bigger tank and money were less of a concern i’d add
Yellow long nosed butterfly
Regal angel pair
Powder blue tang/ or Achilles
Pair of blue throat triggers
Black tang

Corals would be easy sps and softies (fish safe corals in other words). Hopefully one day I’ll have a tank like that
