Are reg drill bits safe to drill some holes into live rock? I have the reg black and silver concrete bites.

I was drilling the other day and almost pulled out the hammer drill. I wish I had, but it was a little cold out to keep running back to the shed. So I just used the dewalt bits, some holes were easier than others. But I think if I broke out the hammer drill I may have broken a large piece of rock. I may have to try it sometime.

Careful with the hammer drill idea... It certainly helps through the more dense parts of the rocks, but can cause much unintentional damage when you hit the airy/less dense parts. We've drilled many holes in LR (up to 2") and use a standard masonry bit on a standard drill with water for cooling/lube.
