Drill underwater to fix corals with plastic "sticks"

Hi Guys,

I have trouble to fix my corals underwater with regular glues / epoxy. Especially with larger colonies and table style corals. I found that using 6 mm plstic rods, drilling both the rock and the coral frag / frag rock makes it super easy to fix the coral.
However it is extremely difficult to drill the 6mm holes underwater. I have a hand drill but it takes forever to drill a hole with it.

Any1 knows a good way to drill holes underwater to live rock?

can you remove the rock?

I used to to have pretty good luck sometimes just using a flathead screwdriver and rotating it back and forth to gouge out holes, depends on how hard/soft your rock is.

you can also use a dremel with the long flexible extension, ive used it to drill holes and the cutting discs to cut off corals i cant get with bone cutters

Sadly (or luckily) my whole rockwork is fixed together, so I cannot remove the rockwork.
The dremel withflexible extension is a good idea - but cannot is "suck up" water?

We have tried these flexible extentions but as it spins sucks up the water all the way to the electronic drill.

I haven’t tried drilling under water but if that happens I’m not sure what to tell you.

How about drilling some rock out of the water and then epoxy and glue it place underwater?

A pneumatic drill would work under water. But I've never tried it.

Pneumatics drills will work fine but be careful they tend to leave some oil behind. We used a lot of different one when I was a underwater construction worker. Also make sure to disassemble after to remove all water and re oil the guts
