Hi all,

Over a year ago when I got a custom sump made, I had the wrong diameter hole drilled for my pump, all the sudden now I smell it overheating (burning smell). Now obviously I realize its time to increase the side to the correct spec:

Can you all please assist me with two questions:

Can I use a diamond glass hole cutter or do I need to use a acrylic bit?
What size do I need to drill? and what size bulkhead should I purchase? Below is the pump I have been using.

Pan World Magnetic Water Pumps are built by a former chief engineer from Iwaki-Japan. It basically has the same specifications such as flow curves, high head pressure and reliability. It also features seal-free bearings and magnetic drive for trouble-free use. These pumps are actually a bit quieter than Iwaki pumps and costs less making it a good or even better alternative. Plus, it comes with a power cord unlike Iwaki pumps.

Warranty: 2-year full manufacturer warranty on parts and labor.

Specifications

  • Max Flow: 1110gph
  • Max Head: 13ft
  • Power: 90W
  • Fittings (Inlet/Outlet): 1" MPT / 1" MPT
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 10" x 4" x 5"
  • Comparable to Iwaki: 30RLXT

I'd use a Dremmel to take the hole out where you need it. Outline what you need, and just zip it out.
Recommended hole size for 1" bulk head is 1.75"

Any bit will work, just go slow. I am sure some bits work better then others, but I have used ones meant for wood before and didn't have a problem. I just went very slowly shaving away at the acrylic.
