Drilling acrylic tank top with fish inside

I'm planning on drilling my tank that has approx a 1" acrylic top due to trying to add a canister filter intake/outtake.

Here's my game plan get a huge net and hold it where I'll be drilling so the residue doesn't fall into my tank and drill the hole

Maybe tupperware container floated under the eurobrace where you're drilling? Sounds a little scary but I imagine it'd be fine if you go slow and don't let the drill get too bound up.

I'd be concerned that a piece of plastic shaving makes its way past the net and is eaten by the fish. Be careful and good luck!
