Drilling my tank

I have a 75 gallon with two holes already drilled, one on each end if the back. Should I use one for an overflow and one for a return or should I use both for returns and drill the overflow holes in the middle? Sump will be a 40 gal breeder tank.

I just ran through this with my tank, I would drill the extra holes and dedicate two for drain, 1 main and 1 emergency.

Sorry, I meant two dedicated for drain not return, I edited it above.

If You run the return over the back you don't have to drill another .

Regardless how I do it I'll have to drill a hole. My overflow will need 2 holes next to each other.

Just trying to see if 1 or two returns would be better.

I have a 75 that I drilled. I brought the return over the back and wye it into two 3/4 loclines. I definitely would have drilled for returns if I had to do it over again

You can most likely get away without drilling if you put the returns over the side. Like @cracker mentioned. As far as utilizing the two holes, use an elbow faced down for the main and one facing up for the emergency... I am not a pro but that’s probally what I would do

Drill overflow holes in the middle, use the existing holes for return.

That's what I was leaning towards. Just wanted others inputs. First drilled tank with sump.

Can I see a pic of your sump setup? I was looking at the eshopps eclipse L. I want to go with a bean animal setup.

I say drill for a proper overflow. There are a lot of ways to do these things, but this is what I know and would suggest:

I went with the eclipse L. I like it

Just be aware of the water level issue with the template. If you go against the rim on the outside of tank water level will be too low. Need to measure the template to the rim on the inside

My sump I went with a figi cube baffle kit and love it

That's a 2nd gen SynergyReef 'Ghost' overflow. Their newer 'Shadow' overflow is nice (wish I had it!) but might be overkill for your 75G.
I know Exotic Marine Systems (@TaylorPilot ) makes some nice options too.

I just installed one of the shadow Reef boxes on my new 220 . Its Super Sleek and Can move a lot of water.. I am hoping its enough surface skimmer....

As far as the op The real question is . How are you going to do weir . If your going to use a Coast to Cost type .I would do that and turn one elbow down and one up inside the tank . If your going to BUY A Pre built over flow box. then drill two new holes in the middle , or what matches your over flow might be best option. .
I have always done over the top returns ...
