Just picked up a 40gal breeder that I'll be using as the DT on my multiple tank system. I've drilled back walls on tanks before, but because of the set-up I'm considering drilling through the bottom of the tank on this one (already checked to make sure the tank is not tempered glass on the bottom).

Never done a bottom hole before, and I've heard that this type of drain can be noisy (considering a simply upright with holes). Anybody have any advice/suggestions for me?

how did you check to see if it was tempered???
i personally stay away from bottom drains just fot the fact if the bulkhead decides to drip you have to drain the tank...up high on the back always seemed to be the best place imo...
if you decide to drill the bottom a standard stockman durso will do it justice and be very quiet.... i wont run anything else but a durso....there flawless design and silent as can be..;)

Thanks Troy. I had the retailer double check with the tank builder before I purchased the tank to make sure it was not tempered glass. I usually place mine high in the back as well, but am considering a bottom drill to minimize counter space required. I like the durso as well, but was hoping for something that could maybe be buried in a pile of LR, and I'm not sure how that might affect the durso's function.
