Though they do eventually open fully, my Bambams take a really long time to open and they look sad in the process. They did get knocked over into the sand by my Trochus snail a couple times before I glued it in correctly, but that was about 5 weeks ago. Is this a physical injury that it’ll heal from, or will those polyps always look like that? Or something else?

They look not to be happy in that spot. I have a lot of different zoas. They are very resilient but some like high light or medium or low light. They are adaptable to flow to so can be placed all over. Verify your tank parameters and par.

They tend to do this when there’s either too much light or too much flow.

Had a similar issue, lower light did the trick for me.

Ok, thanks. They are in a good area for flow but possibly too much light. I actually just reduced my lighting hours so I’ll see if that makes them look better. It didn’t occur to me that different colors would need different lighting, but it makes sense considering I have some colors closer to the light that still stretch out, and others further down that are pressed against the rock!

The lighting variance is probably due to the regions they originate from. I had some Caribbean blues that just hated medium light for some reason while indo or ausi regions love it. Most are aquaculture now though so lights may not be the only primary factor anymore.

The LFS I bought these from kept them under way less light than me, so I’m hoping that fixes their issue as well as some slight algae woes!
