It rolled and dropped right into my 55g rodi drum. It was probably submerged for about a minute while I looked for something to fish it out. Well after 2 days of letting it dry I still couldn't see through it so I decided to open it figuring there was still water left inside. It's quite easy and nondestructive as long as you don't remove the piece that has the markings on it. It's held on with 3 screws underneath the rubber grip. You'll probably never be able to line it up level again if you do. I did that and now it's a nice paper weight. Surprisingly the only piece that had water was the eyepiece, which was easily opened to clean and wouldn't affect anything if I did that first. No biggie since a new one through Prime is only $20.

I might try submerging it in a bag of rice for 24 hours, see how that does.

That crossed my mind but I thought it was so full of water that that'll be hopeless. Plus I was curious what the inside looked like too. With just water in the eyepiece I think the rice would have worked.

ro/di water has no iron in it and you refractometer should be fine once you dry it. I dropped my led light into my salt water and rinsed it in ro/di water and it works fine.
