Hey all

Having some issues with PH where it has been dropping to 7.6/7.51 and wanted to hear. I have started to dose bulk 2 part Alk and Calc during the night and run my cheato light as well but I am still seeing drops. Any thoughts?

Can you open windows?

Have you recently recalibrated?

This is a new double probe that I set up about a month ago and calibrated 2 times. I can try again. I also have a 2nd PH probe, an old one for back up and it always reads different.. I was thinking b/c it's over a year old.

I have a hard time opening windows as I have no screen on the main big one.. I will be getting one but it still gets chilly at night ( Vancouver Island)

Here is probe 2.

I have read before that chaeto in a fuge absorbs some co2 from outside the water, with a reactor it can't do that. So it has to pull everything out of the tank water.
I'm not sure if this makes a big difference in PH drops at night or not. Maybe if possible you could leave the kabinet where the sump is located more open for more fresh air.

My stand is fully open to be honest, no back and no front. I also cannot move it closer to the window but its only about 10 feet from it when it's open.. Hmmm

I was thinking the new ALK recipe #1 was supposed to be used for lower PH tanks but might not be working as well as I had wanted.

If opening a window isn't an option, would drilling a hole to run your skimmer line outside be a possibility? Neither of these were viable options for me so I went the route of using a CO2 scrubber. It's one more thing to have to take care of, but I have had great success with it.

As I rent, I am not able to do this :( What about adding an air stone to the sump? I also have not looked into a CO2 scrubber, I'll have to google that

The airstone might help, but if your low pH is being caused by higher concentrations of CO2 in the air in your home, then adding more of it to the tank could actually make it worse. Probably worth a try before buying more equipment and adding more to your maintenance schedule though!
