drummereef's 180g Starfire In-Wall

Thanks again everyone for the positive feedback, very much appreciated. :)

Y-Diver - Many months of planning went into designing this tank. I drew the whole layout up in Google Sketchup before I started building (image below).

jcom - I'm currently using ecoBAK on the system. Might start dosing MB7 along with it, haven't made the final decision on that yet...

BayCorals - I'm just a professional musician with a secret passion for building stuff.

Bubbles - The return pump is a Reeflo Dart. It also feeds the manifold.

Y-Diver, here's one of the many Sketchup's of the design prior to building.

So everyone is using google sketchup huh, how many hours to you have invested in making that drawing and learning the program? Very impressive indeed.

Hey ReeferRob, Sketchup is relatively easy to learn and use. It's fairly intuitive and the 3D Warehouse is an invaluable resource too. It took me a couple weeks to get the hang of it and then I started being able to get creative with it. I spent months on the design of my system and found Sketchup to be an invaluable resource. :)

wow loooks great. Very clean and organized. But i just think you should add a little more rock

This is going to be great!

Tons of questions, this looks like a watermark in experience. I'll start small and hope most of the stuff just comes up so I don't look too foolish. What are the contents of the three reactors? Could you explain the experience of the water from your tank to your skimmer. I'm a little confused as to what I'm looking at there.

Mind if I ask where you got that manifold that you're using to feed your reactors, etc? All I can find that's similar is a sprinkler manifold and it's not a high grade PVC like that which you use. Thanks in advance.

Hi jcom, I built the manifold myself. It's easy to do if you have PVC experience. It's basically just 5 Tees glued together with a small piece of connector pipe. I used Slip x Threaded Tees so it would be easy to adapt the accessories, like the NextReef, reactors to the manifold. All the parts are readily available at your local hardware, besides the valves which I bought from Savco Plumbing online. :)

It's the same as most systems, Lt Nos. Just a couple Durso drains (one on each side of the display) that feeds the sump. The water travels through the sump, left to right, and is returned through the large bulkhead you see at the far right corner. I use a Reeflo Dart as my return since I wanted to plumb a manifold which feed those reactors. So, on the return side of the pump I put a Tee which feeds the manifold. At the end of the manifold, the 1" pipe exits back to the skimmer section of the sump (can't see it behind the skimmer in the pic). So it acts as a recirculation line as well. This helps eliminate bubbles that would have a tendency to enter the reactors. I'm only using 2 of the reactors currently but what you see in the pic is a Warner Marine ecoBAK bio pellet reactor, a ROX 0.8 Carbon reactor, and a GFO reactor (left to right). Hope this helps. :)

Great build! With your attention to detail I'm sure this tank will be awesome. I'm in the process of setting up a sump and have been looking for a nice clean setup to emulate, looks like I found one. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet, now upon closer inspection, I do see that they are T's joined to form that manifold. Sweet! I'm copying you on this one!

wow, its so neat and tidy.........................................................ok im back and i feel better now after throwing mud balls at the neighbors house. i needed to even things out
