I recently started a tank with dry rock. Put Dr. Tim's and three chromis. It's been a few weeks and levels are coming down. I went in to lfs and the guy told me people have had trouble with biom with dry rock and to buy microbacter7 and dose every other day for three or four months. I've never started a tank with dry rock and am curious what people's thoughts are on his advice.

I don't believe that that will do any good. One shot of bacteria and its accompaniment food is enough. Nature will take over. Good additions would be phytoplankton, pods and coralline scrapings.

That is exactly how I started my current setup (Marco dry rock), which is now over a year old. Only difference is I dosed MB7 daily rather than every other day. Kept nutrients in line and avoided any algae issues.

Thank you. How much did you dose? The guy recommended a cap per 25 gallons

I was dosing 20ml daily in a 125g (total water volume) system. The recommendation he gave you is what Brightwell recommends for seeding new tanks or reducing nutrients in high nutrient systems...I believe the cap is 5ml so that is inline with what I dosed.
