Hello,

I currently have a well established 1.5 year old 40g breeder. I want to order new dry rock, make a cool aquascape outside of the tank and eventually put it in the tank as one large piece cemented together so I don't have to worry about rocks falling and what not. I plan on curing the aquascape in a spare 40g breeder I have lying around. My question is will there be any issues taking out the 25lbs of live rock thats in there now all at one time?

Thanks for the help,
Eric

Ideally, you'd want to remove the old rock a little at a time - perhaps in 2-3 batches.

If you use some of the old rock to seed the new rock, you should be fine.

You could still go through a mini-cycle, but as long as you properly cure the new rock, it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Keep an eye on your levels after the change and have water made up and ready to do a big change in the event of a spike in ammonia.

Awesome, thank you. And I guess there is no reason to take all the rock out at once, I can just take out one rock a week while the dry rock aquascape is cycling. Tank Thread coming soon lol

I would place the DT rock in your sump even if the dry rock is cured.. Just for back up. Seed the dry rock with a rock from your tank.
