Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a new tank (used). The guy threw in a bunch of live rock, the first picture is a piece he put together it looks clean. The second picture is from a tote he gave with about 50 more pounds of rock and a lot of its green and black coloring on it.

My question is what the best way to clean it? Should I use bleach or muriatic acid?

If acid what type of container is best, will the plastic tote work?

Should I clean the large piece in the first picture as well?

You can always soak it in a solution and scrub it then set it out in the sun to dry, then cure it..

that kind of looks like mold. are all of these rocks still wet?

If wet, I'd cook the rocks.

I going to try what's in the video.

I'm not sure if it's mold, the rocks are damp and have a earthly smell.

It could be mold?

I've cooked many hundreds of lbs of LR in my time. Both LR bought from lfs and dry rock. I usually get a large 50 gallon rubbermaid garbage can, a good pump to circulate, a heater to bring it up to about 75, salt water and an in sump skimmer. Nothing too big, but I use an aquaC 180 with a mag 7. You can skip the heater though, because of the heat from the pumps. Then I just dump the collection cup. Usually takes about 4 weeks for me. Good luck and tell us how its going.

I'm getting ready to cook come dry LR in the next week I have sitting outside to replace my old LR in the sump.
