Dry rock

Not sure if I should put this here or the general forum but I purchased some rock today and at first glance thought it was barnacles but it’s not. It’s dead rick so no seeing the actual critter. I’ve just never seen rock like this. Any idea what would grow these holes through the rocks could it be large feather dusters that calcified. It’s hard like a shell through the rock.
