dry rock

Live sand won't die off because you're adding dry rock. I was wondering if it was due to aquascaping, but can't see any issues.

It will make the aquascaping a bit more difficult. You want to be sure to place the rocks all the glass. If they are not completely on the glass they will become unstable. The live sand will be fine in the bag for a few months.

+1 to this. It will be easier to place the rocks onto the glass when the sand isnt there. Also aquascaping usually requires a lot of in and out of the tank, that can be messy when there is water in there.
