Are you using the API saltwater test kit?

I'm using that and have been getting .25 ammonia since I filled my tank up. I've had a raw piece of shrimp in there for four days now and am still getting .25 ammonia. Something just doesn't feel right about it.

I am using api. Throughout the three weeks I was able to get it closer to yellow after the initial spike. And now all of a sudden after trites zeroed the ammonia is more green then yellow. It is common with api tho

Yeah that's what I've heard. I'm wondering if the .25 we're seeing is just basically 0, but who really knows. What was the highest your ammonia got up to and how long did it take?

It got above 5ppm. I left the chunk of shrimp to completely dissolve in a twisted fish net

Today is day 35 still no livestock. I haven’t added anymore ammonia or ghost feed the tank. A few days after ammonia dropped I did a 50% water change and got nitrates from 40-20. Diatoms came and went. Then Wednesday did another 40% changed. I did vacuum as much as the tube will fit. I did rinse the dry sand very well. One bag I didn’t rinse maybe as well as I should have so that’s why I did it while it is completely empty. Ever since the water change the tank went from crystal clear to several fines in the water column. 10 nitrates. Do I need to add some kind of life either fish or just ghost feed till I’m ready to decide which fish to add. There is no algae the light has been on its regular shchedule since week 3. So nothing for a snail or hermit crab to eat. I put some poly full in a gfo reactor over night and it still not getting all the fine particularl matter.
