My wife wanted a shelf hung up above a tank I just started to cycle on Saturday. The tank currently has a glass lid and I covered it up with 3 towels. I did however forget about the opening in the back of the stand and my sump when I drilled 8 holes in the wall for this shelf. Now I have what looks like dry wall dust in the surface of my display and sump. I did add some floss and a filter pad to my sump, should I add anything else? I doubt anything but a large water change will help and that's fine, I'm dosing dr Tims ammonia so I can easily get my 2ppm ammonia. Suggestions?

It is harmless what I do is take a fish net and skim the surface. Might have to do it a few times though but it will catch it.

Thanks! I searched around and I couldn't find a definitive answer, so I wanted to ask!

On a side note the wife did a great job and the shelf was a good decision. I told her she can't be spraying anything on it to clean it since its above the tank. She smiled and told me she was fine with that and I'll be in charge of cleaning it!

As stated, no big deal....even if it gets into the tank. Drywall (sheetrock, wallboard, etc) is made of gypsum, which is a calcium sulfate.....not really an issue with a bit getting in the tank.

Thanks! I added some mechanical filtration to my sump last night. When I checked the tank this morning before I left it looked better. You can't see the particles in the water just on the surface.

As always I appreciate all of the input!
