Hey all,
Just wondering which do you prefer....

Im doing my first DSB with my 33g L, so just wanted to get soem input on the idea and what are the good and bad things about having one.

Steve :D

DSB on all 3 tanks. 2 of these are even running a plennum. Old school rocks!

I can't speak for BB because I don't know from them. Never had one.

Well this will be my second DSB because of the Jawfish and other gobies that will be inhabiting the tank. I had a DSB probably 2 years ago when i had to move......

My 58gal is bare bottom. I really like the way it looks once the bottom gets covered in coraline. Plus I can have as much flow as I want without having to worry about kicking up sand.

i have a bb 180 and a 90 with a few inches of sand; both have their benefits, but you can have a lot of flow with a sand bed, you just can't use southdown and you have to plan your flow correctly

Say if you wanted to do full out sps tank, well i can understand going BB because of their flow requirments. This tank is going to have no sps except for a few very small montis so i dont need as much flow as if i had an sps tank.....

Mine was a BB but I added about an inch ior so of playsand when I redid it. I like it much better this way and the params are better (more stable), as well...

I started with a dsb about 4" , but after moving the tank twice I went with a ssb at about 1-2" or so and really have not seen that much of a difference short term (about 12 months or so). I like the look of the sand - so for me it works. Southdown is hard to come by in these parts so I'm saving what I have for my eventual larger set-up. I think whatever works is the way to go on a case by case basis.
