i would like to get a camera but now show what ones are all good.. can someone help me out with a list of good models? models from the cheapest to the expensive ones.. maybe this post will help others who may look for cameras but not sure what models to look for..

I love nikon cameras.

I had a d3000 base model was good and great to learn on (was) about 350 new with lens kit

Now I have a Nikon D90 and I love this bad boy. It shoots HD video and takes great pics. I got it a while back for $800 used on eBay for the body only. I would highly recommend getting one of these if you know how to use a DSLR already

I've only used Nikon cameras, so I do have a little bias towards the company.

I too have a Nikon D90, but without a macro lens (105mm) I am not able to get any good close shots of my corals.

Remember, owning a DSLR is nice, but you will need a macro lens in order to get those close shots of your corals.

Just about all of the SLR recommendations you will get with be either Nikon or Canon, which are said to stand above the rest. They make comparable models at all price ranges, so most of the pros recommend getting whichever brand feels best in your hands. I personally prefer the feel of a Canon, but have nothing bad to say about Nikon cameras. I'd opt for a cheap entry level SLR that does the basics and then you have some extra money for lenses. A good lens makes all the difference in the world and if you ever decide to upgrade camera bodies, they can be used on the new camera (assuming they're the same brand), although it may require an adapter if they use different mounts. Before you decide to buy anything, just post on the boards for reviews. Chances are someone else has experience with the body & lenses you're considering and they'll be able to give you a brief rundown on the pros/cons.

I did some research and went shopping last week and bought the Canon 60D with an 18-200 Canon lens and a Sigma 105mm Macro lens. Its much more camera than I am capable of. But it takes some remarkable photos at the hands of a novice.

Here are some pics from this evening

Canon or Nikon will do more than you need. After buying ours a few years ago, we've (wife and I) have become quite interested in photography. :) I run an old school Canon Rebel XSi that I bought a few years back, but we have upgraded to a newer Canon just this year *wifey says no touchey* LOL!

Here's a sample of my photography:

i have a tamiron(spelling might be off) 90mm lens and love it for tank pics. Its more about then lens than the camera body so i would go to a store and hold a few different ones and see what you like best. Then buy it from where ever. The lenses they come with are still great for eveyday pics and family pics or FTS pics even great for semi close ups but like stated above to get up close you need a macro lens

i know how your feeling right now going thru the same thing. there so many different cameras. i had to go to target and look at the 3 i was looking at. the one im probably going with is the canon t3i. the others were nikon d5100 or the 3100. but the t3i felt better in my hands and since im holding it went with that.
