DSLR reccomendations

If this is your first dslr I would go with Nikon over Sony and canon, for the main reason that nikons menu system is very user friendly and the Nikon lens lineup is amazing. I would stay away from Sony just because they don't have the lens availability that nikon or canon has and even though you can use Minolta lenses most of their lenses are from the film days and will not be optimized for the digital sensors. I have had a Nikon my dad has a Sony and hands down the Nikon was the better camera overall. I like canon but think in tea of quality between them and Nikon its like ford or chevy personal preference I do however think canons menu system is a bit more confusing than the Nikon making the Nikon easier to go through settings and so on.

well I'd go with canon it's a well rounded camera nikon is also but if you like to go on vacation, canon shoots better video then Nikon and Sony so thats another plus.

also canon has some of the best lenses out there the menu is pretty simple also like any camera you have to get use to it, I have never used a manual with my canon do you can see how simple it is to use JMO

Those are some nice pics! And thank you all for the suggestions. I know that once you head down one of these roads you are on it usually for the long haul. I just don't want to make a mistake and regret it later. I am going to play with them this weekend and see which one feels best in my hands. Please keep the suggestions coming if you have models with the brands that you think would be good. Thanks again guys!

Ok guys, after messing with the cameras for a while, I have leaned towards canon. It just seems to have a more vibrant picture than the Nikon. I like the way the Nikon feels better than the Canon, but I want awesome pics. So next step, what lenses do you guys use to take the super awesome shots? Like the ones of a single Zoa and of fish?? Thanks guys!!

Macro lens. I do not have one. I want one. I think people use a 100mm macro lens. As for brand and other stuff in not sure.

Nikon will take just as good and vibrant of photos, as a Canon. I'm a Canon shooter and shoot with a Canon 7D. I used to shoot with a Canon RebelXt. Whether you're shooting Canon or Nikon, the best quality photos are going to require a lot of practice! Lenses are even more important than the camera body. If you're wanting to take the single polyp photos, you'll want a Macro lens. I shoot with a Canon 100mm Macro. I also shoot with a Canon 18-200IS and the Canon 50mm 1.8 (Nifty Fifty).

I have been looking and the canons come as a package with a 18-135 I think.... So I was looking for another lense to look for with the camera.

you should look at either a 30mm or 70-200 mm depending on what you want to do i have both and the 70-200mm F4 is one of the sharpest lens out there however it is tough to beat a fast fixed focal length lens
