Overdue update... I’m back I town after a week of filling and placing sandbags in Kansas (supposed to be a vacation ;Facepalm)

I’ve lost basically all of my SPS. Even stylos to STN. I honestly haven’t done any water tests. I think I’m going to go softies because even due to my negligence, they seem to be doing well.

I may even attempt some NPS now as since I’ve added more fish I’m feeding a lot more. I think they might actually have a chance.

I’m surprised the euphyllia have been growing as well as they have.

If the world stands still and everyone freezes in place for a couple of hours it might be in mine! Lol. I will need that kind of advantage against everyone else. That will probably be the only piece that survives in my tank!;Hilarious

In terms of getting that NPS you speak of...I probably have a better shot of waiting for my SPS to come back to life ;Hilarious Hitchhiker ID is not my strong suit beyond the usual culprits.

So... Friday evening I was fragging some Zoas and made one cut sending water into my eye. Yesterday I woke up with one eye red. I’m not sure if it’s connected or not as I don’t remember which eye I got it in ;Facepalm

I had rinsed both eyes immediately afterwards.

My eye is not itchy or sore at all. Just red on the inside. Anyone with experience of palytoxin in an eye? (I hope not!)

That can be scary stuff, no experience with polytoxins and hope I never have to experience it!

If not basically looks like you should probably be seen but show them this article as they may likely be unfamiliar with it. I have only treated three people with it myself. I used just antibiotic eye ointment in two and used a steroid eye drop in the third. On one I also used a NSAID. Similar to ibuprofen for the eye in a drop form. Hope that helps.

Personally- I’d go to the emergency dept and have them check it it. Take a tablet and set the browser in the the wiki on palytoxin and tell them exactly what you were doing. It’s unlikely they’ll know what to do right off the bat, but they’ll probably rinse it again and have an ophthalmologist come check you out. A slightly acidic or alkaline rinse will help neutralize any remaining toxin- it’s extremely stable in regular tap water.

Next time- you’re going to be paranoid about face protection and a respirator. That’s good. If you were using a mask, try to identify how that water got past the protection and fix it. a full face mask is relatively inexpensive but worth it if it stops you going blind or getting the toxin into your mouth

My wife's a microbiologist, and a few years ago she started sending me articles and talking about whole families going to the ER, pets dying, etc. She studies bacteria, viruses, toxins, etc. and finally convinced me to get rid of my Palys/Zoas. They're great and all, but just not a risk we want to take with the family.

I know many people keep them safely, and most rarely have issues, especially if you understand what you're dealing with and take the proper precautions.

They're great and all, but just not a risk we want to take with the family.

Oh jeez, I just bought a bunch of zoas and palys because they are pretty and grow fast. Now I'm realizing the liquid that was secreting from my palys that were on a rock that I was moving was probably the toxin. Going to be more careful from now on... Thanks.

Yeah, that’ll be it. It is extremely potent. Personally, due to the risk, I’d throw away anything it came in contact with (obviously not a powerhead or heater or anything) instead of messing about trying to clean it and risk my family.

Funny thing is, I don’t even think they are that pretty anyway, so no great loss to me.
