Has anyone figured out how to use DsunY lights with a apex? Looking to buy these lights next week and would love to be able to run them off the apex. Honestly cant afford 5 radions or other high end lights right now so I am going the cheaper route with the DsunY lights.

Sorry I can't help with your apex question. Don't have one.

I was also interested, however, in purchasing a DSunY light and was curios 1) why you picked DSunY? If you've gotten them what are your initial impressions? And were you going to get the fanless or the model with fans?

I was drawn to them because they have the power supply seperate from the fixture, the aluminum construction, the mix of lens angles with mostly 120 degrees which I imagine helps with spectrum blending and to avoid hot spots. I mean they seemed like decent black box lights for the price.

I won't be growing any acros, just softies, palys, lps, and maybe some easy sps like montipora or stylopora etc

I was thinking of mounting them pretty high, minumum 12" above the tank.

Any thoughts appreciated?

I have not purchased yet. Still on the fence and have been looking into a DIY kit from Steve’s LEDs also.
My original thoughts as too why were pretty much in line with your reasons. The ones I was going to go with are these:

I have a post in the DIY also looking for opinions on Steve’s LEDs before I decide which way to go. The Steve’s are well over twice the amount as the dsuny but it will integrate into my apex. Still a lot cheaper than the big name lights though.
