We helped tear down a tank today and one of the fish we got was a small spotted gobie. The guy gave us DT's and said he put a cap full every other day for the gobie. What is this stuff and should I use it. I do have alot of corals but the gobie will be the only bottom fish right now. Thanks

Clams and other filter feeders will eat that stuff. Rod Buehler the guy that makes Rod's food used to work for they company that makes it.

I fail to see how any phyto would benifit a goby of any kind. Maybe I am not aware of their diet. What kind of spotted goby is it? Orange spot? Pink spot? shrimp, two spot?

The DTs phyto could be to sustain a pod population for the goby, the goby will be a pod eater and anyone who cultures pods uses phytoplankton of some sort for the pods to eat. That is the only connection I could think of between the goby and DTs.

Thanks. So I won't "need" to use it. I added pods a month or so ago (tank has only about 4 months on it ) and the goby ate a brine/mysid with garlic mix.

Ok I get the pod part, Its much easyer to culture your own phyto than paying rediculous prices for such a thing. I would use the DT's you currently got. There is no dissadvantages to dosing phyto that I know of. All you need to grow your own phyto is a starter culture, 2litre bottle, rigid tubing, air pump, F/2 (fertilizer can be found at reedmariculture.com or floridaaquafarms.com I believe) and a light source. Heres a quick vid of my phyto and rotifer cultures, Phyto is alittle pail because I used all but 1 bottle and split it between 4.

Dunno, I assume for a few days-weeks depending on if its refrigerated. I have never tried to store it.
