Dual overflow and return plumbing?

I am planning the plumbing of my 300 gallon tank. 96"x 24" x 36". It has dual overflows and returns. Would you recommend individual pipes to the sump and returns or T'ing them? Or T'ing one and keeping the other individual ? Any suggestions?

Please post pictures or drawings if ou have them.
 
Great video. Any idea if there is any methodology behind the height of the two pipes in the overflow?
 
I have dual overflows and I ended up using a Y-like adapter. I say Y-like since one inlet is a straight pass through , while the second one comes in as at 45 degree angle. It flows pretty good and once you dial in the drains, it's pretty quite.

Generally you want them as high as possible within the overflow to reduce the cascading water noise. And the lower one which is the full siphon should be completely immersed and with the full siphon running before the open channel drains any water. So the full siphon starts and then the water rises until it is drained by the 2nd pipe.
 
I have read that you shouldn't use a manifold for reactors if you run a herbie. What are suggestions to work around?

Also, the holes in my overflow that would be used as the emergency drain are pretty small. I guess only 1". Will that be a significant problem if there is a failure? Or will it be OK since I have the second overflow? Could I go from a 1" to a 1.5" after the bulk head to combat the smaller pipe and hole?
 
Also, there are returns on the overflows. However, would be below the waterline. By an inch or two. Would this cause them to become a siphon? Would I need to take them out and cap them somehow?

You can plumb in an anti siphon valve on returns. Make sure you unplug the pump and do test to see what will happen when the power goes out and youre not there just to make sure your sump can handle the drainage from tank
 
You will need to remove and cap off those returns and go over the back. There is no issue running manifold with a Herbie setup you can run whatever accessories you want. Just make sure your pump can supply the full siphon(s) and the accessories. The whole point of my video is that you do not need an emergency drain. Test your system to make sure you don't flood in either direction. If you have 2 overflows you need to set up 2 full siphons independent of each other.
 
Quick question... If I'm running a dual Durso on a corner flow tank, will drilling the anti-syphon hole that's on top of the drain bigger (making it a bigger hole), will it make the slurping sound less with more air? I am just planning to use it stock. 1" drain and 1" return in each overflow.

I run a combo between herbie and Bean Animal on a 120, 180 and 60 and with each one I have reactors of various sorts (gfo, UV in for my discus, sump circulation) off the return and have 0 issues. I rarely have to adjust even with adjusting the flow through the media. I suspect that many people saying much more adjustment is needed are people that have not actually tried it and are just speculating. At least it has not been a issue for me on any of those systems.

I could see as the reactors became more clogged the return water would increase but that would only result in a little more water going to the open channel. Hardly an issue!
