Dual Photo/lighting Period

Has anyone here tried having their lights on dual light periods? For example, having their lights on for 6 hours, than off for 6 hours, and once again on for 6 hours through out the day. If so, what is your schedule like and have they benefited your corals? Has this stressed out any fish in particular?
