Dual sumps

Anyone ever used two sumps on one tank such as dual overflows with each going in to separate sumps with return pumps in each.
Just a idea and was there any problem with water level in each

I run a dual overflow and it takes a lot of flow to keep up. I actually broke syphon on one tube.

What you can do is connect both sumps together to create a common "return" zone for a single or dual return pump setup, but you can't run two separately long term. One pump will always outpace the other one.

Great point melev no 2 pumps are built the same.

Thanks for the reply my idea had been a 40 breaded for each over flow
But then thought if one pump stop in one sump to return water an over sump was still running there would be a flood

My goal was to have more water volume without taking up space under tank with a larger sump
I currently have a 150 gallon dp that. Is 4 ft and a side sump with a 40 breeder
Was planning a up grade to a 6ft 180 and didn't want to put a large sump under tank I like the side sump because of easy excess an leaves room under display for reactors and ATO tank

That's interesting is one tank a little higher than other an did you drill sides of tanks toward top of water line

I`ll try to get a pic and post it. 2 trigger sumps side by side with a bulkhead as a go between in the basement. Each sump is fed from 1 of the two overflows in the DT on first floor. One sump has skimmer and a pump for reactors and the other sump is more of a refuge with chaeto in it. I like it as the flow is slower thru each sump and the water has more dwell time for nutrients to be processed.
At least that is my take on it..lol

I'll be trying to use two 40 breeders so there will have to be some drilling

I run two sumps to support my twin 140's but the secondary sump is connected to the main via a water bridge. Works great but of course the secondary has to be at the proper elevation.

Right, you have to have the sumps connected or have them 'stacked' with one overflowing into the second.
