Alright everyone! This is our first ever r2r post so be nice please and thank you!! We’ve been in the hobby going on about 17 years now, using r2r threads all to often to resolve any issues we may have had while it’s been available to us. We have however been out of the hobby for a little while and this is our first foray back. We’ve set up a little 60 cube sps heavy mixed reef. It is still a relatively new setup, but has been surprisingly stable. Most likely due in part to the almost 55 gallon cube refugium sump we built for it, water parameters like nitrate and phosphates are all but impossible to keep above zero even with reef roids being fed in half recommend dose every other day. As a result we have seen a little bit of color loss on things like our small efflo colony due to little to no nutrient in the water column (debating on using some type of amino to bolster?). But the meat and potatoes of why we are actually posting is as stated in the title. I am in the process of building a larger system out of 3/4 acrylic so we opted for the 250s for that reason among the fact that we got them new for very reasonable prices. We like the LTC function and have see good PE using it but I’ve had to run it at the lowest available setting and keep the mesh guards on them to keep the tank from becoming a black sand storm. To that end, my question is, does anyone else run these monsters in a smaller system like ours with sand and what settings do you use? I know the gen 2 controller for them has a ton of flexibility, but I’m hoping someone here has some experience and advice on this until they go into the larger system. Thanks in advance! And yes I’ll post some terrible iPhone photos of the system when I’m home! (Any advice on taking better pictures and videos on said iPhone would be greatly appreciated as well! Haha)

I have a 130 I run close to pulse at like 80% in my 60 cube and it can be a bit much sometimes

I use 2 xf250’s on my 48” 90 gallon tank.

My program alternates A, B, A, B ect every two hours it switches

A
10 minute gyres. 70% each.

B
Each pump random 70% max. No sync or anti sync. Just total random.

As they get dirty I’ll increase the power 10%. Once I get to 100% I pull them for a cleaning and return them to 70% when they’re clean

So a little update to this if anyone is interested. I’m still running LTC with mesh guards on. I’ve figured out that if I point the vents up a little higher, but not high enough to cause a water fountain in the tank and offset the position of one gyre about 3/4 of an inch higher than the other, I can run LTC with the max setting at 60% and minimum set to 40% without a sandstorm. So far it’s had what looks like good effect on the sps at the higher and middle points of this little tank, as well as the lps that are all mounted lower on the rock structures.

just a quick snap after turning some of the lights before feeding the other night. You can see my prism has his feeders out in the bottom left bet they aren’t being ripped around by the current.
