I'm sure I have a small amount of stray current (or is it voltage? Whatever!) in my tank because my salinity probe is acting haywire, and it fails the "put it in a cup of tank water outside the tank" test, jumping from 34.8 to 36.1 between the two (tank water in a cup vs. in my sump).

So here's the dumb question part: Without a grounding probe, does the stray electrical energy stay in the water until it's somehow dissipated (ie with a grounding probe) after you unplug all equipment? I'm unplugging equipment one by one for the third time and I don't see any changes. Wondering if the "extra" energy is still hanging out in the sump, wreaking havoc.

Hope this made sense. I never liked the electricity chapter of my physics classes LOL.

Yup, it will go away instantly

Could be something like a light, that doesn’t actually touch the water, where voltage can travel through salt creep or moisture

Thank you! I unplugged the refugium light..no change. I will try uplugging my display lights. That's the last thing.
