So I’m kinda confused on how to grow and properly frag Favia. As you can see before she was cut I cut around the end that was encrusting the frag rack

Now my question that little pieces I have do I attach them to rocks to get them to grow like the mother or do they grow a skeleton eventually and grow up? Kinda confused on how to get it to look like the mother

Or am I just dumb and idk what I’m talking about

Generally they outwards into a plate like surface for which is safe and easy to cut thereafter

The best way to grow them out is to mount them. They will grow in the easiest direction, which often leads around frag plugs or discs and onto bottoms where they get no light. While you can wedge them and get them to grow on rocks, it's best to create a ramp with epoxy. I don't have a good favia picture, and even this micromussa picture isn't great but have a look :

You can still see the plug yet it has tons of new polyps and is maybe 10 or 20 times bigger then when I got it. You can also see a bit of the epoxy. On your frag rack they it will just continue to cover it and then grow on the bottom (months if not years from now depending on how much you feed). It may eventually build thicker skeleton but that is for sure years away.

I like to mount them on the largest, flat tile I have. That way the initial growth is flat and the colony looks more natural when it grows off of the tile.

I'm sure you know when fragging them don't cut through the eyes.
