Thinking about a sump design. I like filter sock holders over a "crash box" that overflows to a platform where filter socks sit due to space. For the life of me I can not understand how you would swap out the sock. You have a pipe going through the holder and into the filter sock. Do you have to lift the sock up twist it somehow and the go down through the holder. I am sure I am completely over thinking this...

Is this what you mean?

For mine it just sitting there and I can lift it up easily, but if you don’t have the divider and with the pipe goes directly to the sock it would be difficult. You may have to detach the holder and go downward first

Your design makes sense. It that a DIY sump or a commercial one? Would love for someone with a holder chime in.

Yeah that’s a skimz sump. If DIY maybe you can try gluing a divider in place. That being said I’m no expert in sump design. Waiting for someone done that before to help you

Hello,

I had an older eshopps sump. It had that first set up. Pipe down into the sock. I did what xjiang drew. Pain but I would get the plastic ring on the sock out of the holder than slide it down and off. Kinda like a sock. :). I eventually put a union in the pipe just above the holder.. I would separate the union and take the bottom pipe out with the sock. Then put pipe in new sock and reattach once sock is in holder.

On my old sump I had the overflow plumbing going strait into the sock. I didn’t glue the pvc going into the sock so I could remove it and replace it. Depending on what material your going to use for building inside the sump it should be that hard either way. My current sump is a crash design

Thanks for the info everyone. The holder seems like a pain and filter socks are already a pain. Crashbox may be the way to go. My first sump was a DIY with glass baffles. I am comfortable cutting glass but not drilling a hole it it. @Irishman is your current sump DIY? Wondering how I could build the platform for the filter socks.

No my current one is a trigger sump. You can probably take your glass to a shop and have them cut it. Or look on amazon for a circle glass cutter.
