My doser just dumped all my alk into my 127 total water volume system,
I'm not home right now was told by my wife. Was adding it with my phone through my apex and it must have got stuck on the on position . What kind of outcome am I looking at? I dumped about 1 liter worth

My doser was accidently turned off for 4 days it went down to 5.7 when my wife tested it, then I was trying to adjust it

5.7 can be fine if it happens over a long period of time which is usually the case however that liter of alk could be pretty bad probably at least some moderate/severe distress to an all out tank crash. Depends how potent it was and how much it rises you could calculate that pretty easily and determine where it will be.

My PH went up to 8.8 and is now dropping and at 8.6 and declining slowly

Should I add calcium and hope for pricipitation to lower my alk?
That might be a good idea especially if you have SPS in your tank. I know my SPS were not happy when I accidently overdosed alk on a smaller level. Lost 2 of my 10 frags in the affected tank.

Let's see if others can offer advice.

Did you mean to say your alk is at 8.8? So it went from 5.7 to 8.8 and is already down to 8.6? Where do you typically keep the alk? If in fact you meant the pH is at 8.8, where is the alk now?

If the alk went to 8.8, you may very well see some burnt tips depending on your nutrient levels. But at this point, I would stop dosing alk and let it settle back to your "normal" range. In my opinion, avoiding any additional major swings would be best. That's my $.02.

I'm not sure were my alk is at now, last night it was at 5.7 i need to get my wife to check when she wakes im currently out of town working, i noticed my doser was turned off so i asked my wife to check the 1 liter bottle, she then told me it was still full as i forgot to turn the doser back on 4 days ago when i went to work . I turned it back on with my phone but not sure how this happened but when i did the (Then On ) command got changed to (Then off) and it didn't shut off and it drained my bottle, only reason i knew something was up because i got email fro my apex saying i had a high ph. My PH went up to 8.8 and is now lowered to 8.46 and i won't be able to do anything till i get home i might be able to get my wife to do a 10gallon water change but that won't do much to a total of 127 gallons of water volume.

Is the water cloudy with precipitate?

If so, you will get a false high alk reading.

If not, it may not be all that high.

Have you calculated how big that alk boost would be?

really hope it wrong. i wont know what it's at for about a hour or so

I liter would raise KH about 11 points, assuming 127 total water volume. I bet you definately got some precipitation, especially if it was dosed into the sump (hopefully low flow).

If it is above 13 dKH or so, I'd do some water changes with low alk water (maybe acidity it first to reduce the alk in it).

But in general, these events are self correcting because the precipitation drops that alk and pH.

I discuss them here in the context of limewater overdoses where pH is a bigger issue than alkalinity, usually. My tank has turned to milk without losing anything. :)

What is that Precipitate in My Reef Aquarium? by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com

from it:

The following important points should help in dealing with a limewater overdose:

1. Don't panic! These overdoses do not usually cause a tank to crash.

2. The primary concern is pH. If the pH is 8.6 or lower, you need not do anything. If the pH is above 8.6, then reducing the pH is the priority. Direct addition of vinegar or soda water is a good way to accomplish this goal. Either one mL of distilled white vinegar, or six mL of soda water, per gallon of tank water will give an initial pH drop of about 0.3 pH units. Add either to a high flow area that is away from organisms (e.g., a sump).

3. Do not bother to measure calcium or alkalinity while the tank is cloudy. The solid calcium carbonate particles will dissolve in an alkalinity test, and all of the carbonate in them will be counted as if it were in solution and part of "alkalinity." The same may happen to some extent with calcium tests. Wait until the water clears, and at that point, alkalinity is more likely to be low than high. Calcium will likely be mostly unchanged.

4. The particles themselves will typically settle out and disappear from view over a period of 1-4 days. They do not appear to cause long term detrimental effects to tank organisms.

5. Water changes are not necessarily beneficial or needed in response to a limewater overdose.

Yes into the sump but it isn't really low flow :/ I work graveyards right now and have been thinking about this alk night
