Hi guys, I had chance to see nice colony of duncans at my LFS for sale. I really love this coral, but there seems to be limited info about this coral. Any recommendation in terms of ease of care, feeding requirements, lights, etc?? Thanks

they dont really care too much about lighting, but they like to eat meaty foods, also as long u have ur water parameters in check like Alk at 9.5-10, Mg 1350-1450, Ca 400-450 they should grow like weeds.

+1. mine are in the bottom of my tank. and in moderate flow. they do love to eat! i use a pipette to feed them a mix of meaty foods. and like amore said they are fast growers !

Thanks for the info. I guess frozen mysis shrimp is a good choice?? How often should I feed??

very easy to care for I started with a 3 eyed colonly now there is 50 heads, i used to feed a lot, have not fed him in a month and looks great, I do feed heavy FAT FISH

Mine have been fed squid, silversides, krill, brine, mysis, even guppies....yes real live guppies. Now I make my own food (with a bunch of what is listed above plus more) and my clowns have started hosting them. So they have gone from 13 to 72 heads in about 6 months.

As long as you feed them, they grow like a weed. I feed mine every other day. It went from 3 heads to 20 heads in about 3 months.

Keep them wet. As long as you do that they will grow like weeds. Seriously they might be the easiest coral I have ever kept.

+1 they grow no matter where I keep them in the tank, up high down low. If you have them getting blasted with lots of direct flow they may not open as much. I quit feeding mine that often as they were growing too fast.

and farther away from light usually equals larger polyps when opened.

i bought a single head on a frag plug like 4 months ago and it turned into 7. I dont target feed or anything special just keep calcium, kh, mag, salt, and temp good and steady along with regular water changes and thats it. I do put a teaspoon or 2 of zooplankton and phytoplankton once or twice a week to blanket feed my dusters and LPS and SPS. Im sure they would grow faster with direct feedings but id rather keep my water quality than go and over feed each coral i have.

I have a question about Duncans. I have moved mine throughout my tank trying to find a place where they will be happy. They arent happy anywhere and they will not open!! I'm wondering how long I have with them if they refuse to open.

Thanks
Jason

i have gotten in new duncans and a few of the times it has taken like 2 weeks befor they of opened but one they do....they will open any where in your system...just put them in a lower flow with lower light just so they can get used to the water.....when they start to open then start to move them...to much moving befor they open will stress them to much.....

they grow like weeds, mid tank feed them 2-3 times a week medium flow i started with 4 3 months ago and now i have 9. so give them some room. my clowns love them as well

Your feeding them full courses! I bet they’re happy

Just find something like a lower medium light/medium flow location and let them settle in.

Corals in general don't like to be moved around frequently since having to constantly adjust to new conditions and that is stressful for them.
