I have been wanting to get a duncan and have tried to read as much as I can. So far it has been 50/50. Half the reefers say they love them and the other half says there luck was not so good. The thing I have read the most is that when they first got them they was great and then within days they would only open a couple days at a time and some finally died.

I have a few and when I got them they did seem a little unhappy. But only for about three days. I fed them on the fourth day and they opened up the same day The more I feed the happier they are. So I think they are not to hard to keep as long as they are getting food.

My buddy has had nothing but luck with them. Feeds them every day and they are creating new heads like crazy. Can't wait to get a frag from him. They've done super well.

Have heard the same from others as well. Really easy coral to keep for most but just so gosh darn expensive at times.

Duncans are notoriously "angry" when you first get them in. It's common for them to not really open for the first few days. After that they may just open but not grow for a few months. After that they grow like crazy. A single polyp can easily grow 5 new polyps in the matter of a couple months. They are one of the fastest growing LPS out there. The only drawback is there isn't much variety in color. I have some purple duncans and some green duncans. I've had bright lime ones before, but those are the only 3 colors I've seen in them.

They're mainly photosynthetic, but brine shrimp and mysis go over well with them. I use the prepared frozen adult brine shrimp because they're more nutritious. Pretty much any small meaty bit will be accepted though.
