Is this normal for a Duncan? My coral will extend 3-4 inches up throughout the day. Its only extended that much during the peak light hrs. Should I move it up or increase intensity. So far I moved it out of the flow a little because it was extending so much that the polyp hit its own base. Never seemed to bother it (only me). Thoughts? I have a couple hammers and a frog spawn that all "hid" when placed in the same lighting area They came from the same display as the Duncan.

A picture would be helpful. My Duncan's extend and retract pretty often though, I've never noticed it being an issue.

I've only had a frag of duncans for a little bit now, but mine seem to really be active in the late morning and afternoon and close up when the lights start dimming again in mid afternoon. No other coral I have is that reactive to the light as far as opening and closing, but the duncans have done it like clockwork for the two months I've had them.

Yeah my little guy opens and closes with the light cycle as well, doesn't extend up like that but the head grows quite a bit larger.

I don’t have that problem with my Duncan at the very bottom of the tank with low flow. The flow is a big issue with Duncan, they don’t like a lot of flow. I started with 2 heads and had this one for about 8 month

Mine have gotten much bigger since putting it in a high flow area. Seems to be extending more too.

That is what I think mine should look like. Your hammer doesn't sting it?

I mounted mine upside down and the extension is ridiculous. I'll try to get a picture this weekend.
