So about 2 years ago I bought a Duncan from a local shop. It was butchered when they fragged it. I ended up taking it to the shop I always buy my dry goods, filters, tanks etc due to it not opening up at all for 3-4 months. After he had it a month or so it was fully open and in gorgeous color. Its been about a year since then. I have not fragged it at all, havent changed anything in the tank except added more corals, regular maintenance and such to the tank. Now it is back to not wanting to open. It has grown alot...went from 2 heads to 20 heads in the time I have had it.

What could be causing this little guy to close up and not want to open again? I have tested my parameters they are all in check....450 calcium DKH 9 PH 8.3 1500 Mag. Phosphates are low, I am at a loss with this little coral it has had a rough life and now it seems to be reverting back to hiding.

Is anything bothering it? Such as hermit crabs crawling on the skeleton, other corals touching it, or fish picking at or around it?

Duncans can be super finicky sometimes, I've lost two different colonies for no apparent reason since other sensitive corals in the tank were happy and healthy both times.

I have it in its own spot with no other corals near it, as for hermit crabs not that I have seen same goes with fish. The only culprit I could see being possilbe is the heniochus pecking at the rock they are attached to but other then that I don't see any others bugging it....

Is the stem of the Duncan still bright green? No black spot or white marks on it anywhere?

How large is it? Could you remove it and preform a coral dip easily?

I could easily remove it and do a dip....No black or white marks at all and the stems are green. It is trying to open as I am typing this but not like it was.

Update on the Duncan it seems to be opening more each day. I am wondering if I made it mad some how when adding the new corals. Today is 1/2 open vs the 1/8 it was yesterday. I am hoping to see it fully open in the next couple days
