i’ve been trying to figure out for a while why this duncan hasn’t came out, it has 4 giant beautiful heads and since it’s been given to me i haven’t seen it come out, however the one right next to it is just fine it comes out all the time and responds to feeding. just not sure if i should dip it in case it might pest but in the past ive killed corals by dipping them thinking something is wrong so not sure..

Duncans are finicky. If those cloves, torch or even the fish brush it, it'll close. How long has it been closed up?
Is there a flow difference between the two spots?

*Finicky as in quick to react.

it’s been closed maybe couple weeks to a month it somewhat will come out but nothing like how my other duncan is and i’ve tried placing it near the other duncan to give it the same flow and same thing. i’m just not sure if any pest could be bothering it so…

Following. I have 2 separate Duncan's and one will not open for nothing. I've tried all different light/flow combos and the other one is wide open, always.

I've had tons of success with Duncans (grown many cantaloupe sized colonies of close to a hundred heads) and I've had some that just don't come out for awhile, and I never know why. I used to worry about it. Now I don't. I just leave them alone, and after a bit, they extend again. Then in 3 months they'll retract and I don't know why, again. But they always recover. In other words, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

They can be moody. Give it time. Mine started off closed and tiny but now they are huge and fluffy. Also try feeding them small bits of fresh shrimp. Mine plumped up a bit with feedings.

feeding and lowish flow have helped mine ,three colonies sumped one at a time all around 10 years plus ,suddenly all struggling (think dinos ) but all have picked all since sumping ,hand feeding and under cheap grow lights with low flow .
