Duncan question?

One thing I noticed with my Duncan is that it really likes stability. Playing with light and flow settings also made it close up some. After reverting back to original settings I initially had and just letting my tank do what it does on the parameters end (rather than trying to chase numbers even though I have low side pH 7.7-7.8 ), it was much better. Had it about 3 months now, starting as 1 head, and it's growing 5 more.

Your mag and calcium are a bit low. I typically try to keep my mag between 1350-1500, and calcium between 400-500. Seems like a broad range, but I dont always have time to dose regularly. They raising your mag and calcium. See if that helps. I fragged my duncan 9 months ago and it has tripled in size since then.

I'm going to slowly raise the levels up there and I'll see how what happens. thanks for the advice!

I did buy a Duncan with 2 heads and for some reason it got unhappy for a time and even lost a head. It was in an IM 25 lagoon at the time. I moved it over to my 140 gallon frag tank once it was cycled, AMD now it has probably 8 smaller heads on it. I think it is just about stability honestly.

You said you are have a hard time keeping your parameters stable. Do you know why, or what you think might be the issue?

I go to my LFS and get buy saltwater he mixes for me (I don't have my own RODI unit) and the only thing I can think of is that its not coral pro in the bag?? I just feel like those 3 elements are constantly bouncing all over.

Thanks! Last count was 130ish heads after cut. Rack filling up and I need to trim more as he tentacles keep reaching for the powerhead.

just a quick question, cause I see you have your Duncan infant of your gyre (well just below it) Do you keep your Duncan in high flow? cause right now mines in a moderate to lower flow area down on the bottom of my tank

normally I keep it at 1.024. What do you suggest? or what do you keep your reef at?
My Duncan coral is doing good. Along with hammer, scan, candy, goniopora, zoas, and frogspawn. So I used to struggle with low dkh and calcium. I did a couple of things. 1) slowly raised sh to match sea water. 1.026. This helped alot as most saltwater mixes are set to this concentration. 2) purchased a doser and currently dose kalkwisser, a little every hour. 3) test every week end. Calcium moved from 390 to 460, dog 7.3 to 8.5. Magnesium I manually dose a little once a month. 1350 to 1390. I also feed reef roids, phytoplankton, and iodine to keep at .06 ppm. But 1.024 is a little low.

Duncans are pretty bulletproof as far as LPS goes.

Mine is currently sitting around 10 heads from 1 about 8 months ago. Pretty decent flow(they seem to like to have their tentacles "wiggle" in the flow, but not so much they are being whipped around. And decent amount of light, more so then a typical LPS, but not so much as an SPS.

Just remember stability is the key rather then some exact number. Keep things stable, and it will bounce back in no time.

Duncans desire moderate water flow and lighting, feeding 2-3x per week........ mid tank placement with low ammonia/nitrate readings and assure its not getting stung. Search also at base for any possible pests in tank

It’s pretty low flow where it’s at.

Good Morning -
Cal and salinity seem low. Corals can get used to a lower salinity system I suppose but I’d get the cal up. Here’s my baby

I’m dosing daily now slowly bring my mg and calc up also bringing my salinity up too, but I use a part a and b for calc and alk and it says always add both parts equally. Won’t that raise my alk up too high if I’m dosing them equally??

Hi Guys, I got a Duncan I month ago and no it is not open at all, I noticed today it is taking out something from the mouth, any idea what could be?

Mine has grown two heads in 6 months. Shows all tanks are different. Mine sits on the bottom in 130 par with great flow. Looks like an Elegance more than a Duncan.
