Duncan stalk receding

Duncan stalk turning brown and coral closed for 2 days now,does open alittle. Should I cut that part off?

hello! some more information would be great. what are your parameters? how long have you hd the tank and this coral? can you get some better pictures of the brown spots if possible?

Tanks a year old,but started with established liverock 8 years old. Had duncan about 2 weeks,was open since I got it untill about 2 days ago. Alkaline 8,salinity 1.024 ph 7.8,temp 77 degrees,calcium 430ish

not gonna lie, that doesn't look good. it looks like it is receding back to the skeleton. are your parameters stable? any coral eating fish/inverts? pests?

i'd put it in a shady area, keep your parameters as stable as possible, and try and target feed for the extra energy.if the spot keeps progressing... frag and save what you can.
 
I don't see anything that concerning yet. My Duncan's close from time to time, sometime spent closed everyday. You have a alkalinity of 8, a calcium of 430 and your ph is only 7.8? Is it always that low?

^^^^ low ph is never a good sign. double check that and your alk maybe.

and yeah sometimes duncans close up. mine do all the time and then pop right back open. it’s the recession that worries me a bit
