Working on my plumbing tonight and when I was pre-fitting everything I noticed that the Durso pipe is not a snug fit into the bulkhead. What is the best way for me to fix this problem? FYI: The return pipe fits very snug into the 1 inch bulkhead.

given it's a relatively tight squeeze to fit your hand into the overflow, it doesn't have to fit too snug, just has to hold the water in the overflow box. I wouldn't worry about it. worst case it has some bypass.... not the end of the world. Nothing sucks more than trying to wedge your overflow piping out inch by inch when it's stuck in there good.
