I sure this has been asked a lot but....
I have just started my tank after months of setting up. My tank came from Glass Cages with an internal overflow with 2 predrilled holes, one is for a 1" and the other is an 1 1/4" bulkheads. The water is just falling through the standpipe into my sump dragging all sorts of air with it. My standpipe is 1 1/4" reduced to 1" (i reduced the size of the 1 1/4" bulkhead to 1") and my plumbing is 1" from the bulkhead to my sump. I do have a hole drilled in the cap of the standpipe with a small piece of silicone air tubing. If i pinch this closed or even half closed it pulls a full siphon.
Tank is 120g. My sump is a Trigger systems 26. Mt return pump is a Jabao 6000.(running on low speed, for now)
It sound like Niagra falls.
Did I miss something or not understand something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious to see what other people say about this. I'm setting up a build with the same limitations and, after a bunch of browsing have decided to use a Hofer Gurgle Buster style stand pipe to reduce noise.

If you want to try one, I found all the parts in schedule 80 at http://www.pvcfittingsonline.com/ (thanks to recommendations here!) Even the reducer couplings to make the prettier version.

Google "Hofer Gurgle Buster" for lots of good threads.

Do you have a picture?

You can use a valve on that tubing to set the water level in your overflow box and drain flow rate to make it the most quiet. You'll want the water level to not fluctuate and be just below the top of your horizontal section of durso.

Also do you have an emergency drain? As I read, you have one drain and one return line from the pump. This is a pretty common set up but be careful adjusting your drain not to overflow the tank.

No to the emergency drain.
I did think of a gate valve to slow the water coming into the sump. although with all the searches I did before joining and posting here I did not see or read anyone doing this.
I can take a picture, of what would you like to see?

The jaebo pumps are adjustable speeds so no need for a gate valve on return.

A pic would help to see if its something obvious. Dursos have no emergency drains.

Dursos will always have "some" noise though.

I have had the pump on lowest speed and doesn't seem to make to much difference. I will post some pics tomorrow.
