Hi,

I have a durso linked into my clarisea filter. The durso no mater what I do is nosiy.

So if I went for a bean system and looked the return though behind the Tank and over the hood would I put a Y piece connecting both the main drain and the emergency drain into the clarisea or would I drop the emergency a few inches below water level in my sump?

Would moving to a bean system allow me extra flow into the sump as I am using a 12000lph pump but not anywhere near its full potential.

Next thing... The pvc Weld... How long would it take to be Tank safe? As that could be an' issue to getting it all done.

Thanks

Well pictures of your existing system will be most helpful.
Hard to give advice without seeing what you have.

Others here will say 20-30 minuets of cure time is enough for PVC glue to dry enough not to be harmful. I however do not agree with this. I have always waited a full 24 hours.

Bean or Herbie? How many drilled holes are in the overflow? You would want the emergency drain free and plumbed on its own.

Thought some better safe than sorry.

So ill need to do it over 2-3 days.

Thanks !

Herbie!

Sorry.

2 holes. Drain is 25mm and return is 32mm. Id obviously use the 32mm as my main drain.

Does the emergency have to be inline with weir water height? Does the emergency sit under the water level in the sump? I've seen some vidoes of people allowing water to run into the emergency

Normally the emergency is just above the desired water height yet below the rim of the tank to prevent overflow.
Emergency drains are usually dry unless there is a problem.

From what I understand, durso should be mostly quiet. If you are hearing gurgling then your return pump is probably pushing more flow than the return can handle and is fluctuating between pulling a full siphon then breaking the siphon (which is why you are hearing the gurgle). A durso is designed to never pull a full siphon.

It seems from what you are describing is that you have three holes drilled in the overflow (allowing for a bean style overflow) but only have plumbing for 2 returns in the sump? If that is the case, then cap one of the bulkheads and just run a herbie overflow. A herbie will allow you to pull a full siphon and you will be able to really crank up your return pump if you wanted.

As unstable stated, I wouldn't put a Y for your emergency. In a bean animal design, the emergency should be always dry and only be used if the other drains clog.

I keep a trickle thru my emergency most of the time and out of the water in the sump so it will just free fall. I use flex pvc in the sump with a bit of a curve. Stops the sound.

Herbie!

I would use the 25mm as the main and the 32mm as the emergency

Keep your main drain and emergency as separate lines, do not Y them together. You won’t be able to achieve a siphon if you Y the two drains and you will end up with terrible noise coming from the emergency drain. In a Herbie you keep the emergency dry, or just a trickle. Honestly, you don’t even need to run this pipe into your clarisea, put it wherever you have room (skimmer chamber, return, wherever). Make sure your main drain is below water level, but not too deep, maybe an inch. If it is too deep it will have trouble purging the air on startup and be noisy until it does. Put your gate valve as close to the bottom of the pipe run as you can and avoid horizontal runs as much as is practical.
