Durso too loud?

I made myself a durso and did some research, I have a 1" drain and i'm getting the gurgle noise. I tried enlarging the hole in the cap but that didn't seem to do anything, so I put a valve on the return line and in order to get it to quiet down I have to really restrict the flow on the valve. Shouldn't there be more flow through the system and not less?

Should I try to enlarge the hole in the cap some more?

I don't know how much info you'll get without the book, but apparently it IS possible to silence a Durso.

Yeah I suspected what he says in the article, its the flow rate of the pump and creates the noise, so for now its dialed down with the valve. I might go buy a bunch of caps and try different diameter holes, one of my friends said to just make the hole bigger, the other says to dial down the flow.

Drill the hole in the cap just large enough to stick a piece of airline tubing in snugly the cut a piece of tubing a foot long or so and slowly lower it doen into the hole until the sound quiets and the flow takes off like a rocket. You ill probably be able to lessen the restriction on the return pump once the air/water mixture is balanced.
