So looking at my reef which is an open top system I wondered if dust particles in the air that land into the tank contribute to my detritus load. Makes a little sense to me but wanted to hear what you guys thought? So do closed systems like having a canopy cut down on cleanup caused by dust?

Is there any furniture close to your tank? (tables, chests etc) If these aren't being covered in dust from week to week then I don't think you have anything to worry about.

My tank is in a room with other things. Every house has dust to a point. So the question is when you clean detritus out from your sump and in the main display is a percentage of that house hold dust?

I'm sure there's some dust in our tanks, but I think its a negligible amount. I occasionally find dog hair floating around in mine, but never worry about it.
