I picked up what looks to be a healthy Rusty Angel a few days ago, he's in a 50g cube tank on his own. Stubborn snot won't eat. I've tried mysis with seachem garlic, clam on half shell and masstick. Nada so far, any other suggestions to get his appetite up. Was considering a tank mate to help it understand that what I'm putting in is food.

Any advice, TIA!

Brine shrimp, krill or bloodworms?
Sometimes they dont like mysis but will take brine or vice versa. Vitalis Grazer rings can sometimes get them going because they can pick at it

tank mates may help encourage eating

IME frozen brine shrimp can entice finicky eaters but the best thing would be live black worms. Don’t give up on the live clams on the half shell, I bet it will eat these eventually.

I would also try adding another fish to the tank that does eat food well. It will help “teach” your angel to eat.

Plain mysis always getting them eaten for me. With higher price on fish lately, I've been asking to see the fish I'm interested in eat before purchase. If they don't eat, I don't buy.

Funny part is that it ate mysis at the LFS. I'm with you, if it don't eat, I don't buy.

IME it's the usual weirdo dwarf angel hunger strike. Usually within 48 hours I can get them to eat something. I have a LFS I'm not a fan of that does do fresh blood worms, may try it.

Thanks for the brine suggestions, will grab some tomorrow before I head to work. Would love to coax it onto something dry as I go on vacation at the end of month, everyone else eats pellets. So it may go into the main display after another week or so.

Way more active in the larger tank. Decided to just plop it in (what I normally do) and cross fingers. We will see how it goes! Hoping everyone will teach it to eat prepared foods. Usual regimen is auto feeder twice a day and a few cubes of whatever I have or a chunk of LRS/Rod's once a day.

Wow that's awesome, good looking tank and fish!

Thanks! It's been a process, just put the larger tank back together after a house disaster and failing seam repair. Tank is coming out of the uglies after going through a mini cycle due to using 80+ pounds of new sand and nuking most of the previously live rock (aiptasia was taking hold).

Hoping the fish holds up, I've always had a mixed run with dwarf angels. Had a BiColor for a few years otherwise they never hold out. The fact that this one lasted 5+ days so far is a positive for me.

My flame loves flakes the only fish in my tank that will eat em.
He loves mysis and spirulina brine, won't touch nori but if I scrape the algae off the glass he follows the scraper looking for free algae scrapings.
Funny you say that, it's mucho grazing on alage and pods already, just not the prepared stuff. Hoping putting it in the larger display may do it.

Well the Rusty Angel took a turn for the worse, saw him struggling at the top of the 120g at 4:30 a.m. my time, put him back in the 50g cube. Will probably be gone by tonite :(. I've NEVER had good luck with dwarf angelfish except once, and I LOVE the color they bring, may just be a fish that I'm not supposed to have. Or may need to try a conditioned fish instead of local LFS or importer direct.
